You may be surprised to hear that the Xbox Series X did not have many exclusive games at launch. However, the saving grace is that you can play all games from previous Xbox consoles, including the Xbox One, Xbox 360, and original Xbox.
Here’s how to make your old Xbox games work on your Xbox Series X …
Do old Xbox discs work on the Xbox Series X?
From the beginning, Microsoft made it clear that it would develop the Xbox Series X to be compatible with older Xbox games.
The Xbox Series X has a 4K Blu-ray drive, so if the Xbox One discs work smoothly on the Xbox One, they’re compatible with the Xbox Series X.
The only exception to this is Kinect games. They rely on motion detection technology that the Xbox Series X does not support.
Playing an older generation Xbox game on the Xbox Series X offers better visual performance and faster download times. This can be a real blessing for some games.
Do old Xbox discs work on the Xbox Series S?
The short answer is no. Unlike the Xbox Series X, the Xbox Series S does not have a physical disk drive, so you cannot play your Xbox discs on the Xbox Series S, even the previous generation Xbox One.
If you have a lot of old Xbox game discs that you plan to play, it is highly recommended to consider an Xbox Series X instead.
However, if you have digital downloads of the games, they will be played on the Xbox Series S.
How to transfer old Xbox games to Xbox Series X.
There are several ways you can transfer your old Xbox games to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. This also includes storage information, so you don’t have to restart games. Thanks, Microsoft!
How to import from cloud storage
The fastest way to play old Xbox games on the Xbox Series X is with a disk drive, but you need to import your recordings from the cloud.
Xbox Wire confirmed in a blog post that if you buy a game on Xbox One, the game library, progress, and recordings will be transferred with you to the next generation of consoles.
If you’ve already enabled cloud storage on your previous Xbox, they’ll automatically sync to any game you install on your new Xbox Series X.
How to import from external storage
You need an external hard drive to transfer your old Xbox games and save files to your Xbox Series X.
Mene Settings> System> Storage On Xbox One and select an external storage device.
Select the data you want to transfer and select Copy.
When the transfer is complete, you can remove the external storage.
Turn on the Xbox Series X and connect external storage via USB ports.
The Xbox Series X should recognize the external drive and ask what to do with it. If it doesn’t ask, you can go to Settings> System> Storage and select it.
From the Recording menu, select the games and data that you want to import to Xbox Series X, and then click Copy.
Some games can actually run on an external storage device. So you don’t have to copy them to your Xbox Series X. Great if you don’t want to move them or you don’t have the storage space to do so.
How to use data transfer via Wi-Fi connection
If you don’t have an external storage device, don’t worry. You can use Wi-Fi to transfer currently installed games and system information from your Xbox One to your Xbox Series X.
Both consoles must be turned on and connected to the same WiFi network for this to work. If your internet connection is slow, the transfer may take some time or if you copy a lot of games and data at once.
Mene Settings> System> Backup and Transfer Xbox One
choose Allow network transfer.
Start Xbox Series X and go to Settings> System> Backup and Transfer
Select Xbox One Local consoles.
Select the games and save the information you want to transfer from Xbox One to Xbox Series X.
choose Copy to start the transfer process.
Improving your Xbox Series X game library
To get the most out of your Xbox Series X game library, consider a Microsoft subscription service. Xbox Game Pass.

Xbox Series X controller compatibility
The Xbox Series X and Series S drivers are both compatible with the Xbox One and the PC. On the flip side, you can use the Xbox One controller on your Xbox Series X or S.
Microsoft has assured Xbox gamers that their drivers will not cause compatibility issues. When comparing the Xbox Series X to the PS5, Xbox comes here because you cannot use the PS5 DualSense controller with the PS4.
Use Auto HDR to make your old games look better
When the Xbox One S was released, many games were launched without the HDR feature. However, the Xbox Series X and Series S have a new feature called Auto HDR.
Auto HDR automatically enhances the graphics of the SDR game without the need for developers to do the extra work to improve the compatibility of their games.
Because the system implements Auto HDR, CPU, GPU, and memory do not incur performance costs, ensuring that you always get the most out of your Xbox Series X.
Now you can play old Xbox games in the X-Series
One of the best features of the Xbox Series X is its ability to play old games. This means you can give the old console away to those in need, but you can continue playing on the next generation console. And thanks to Auto HDR, they should look better than ever.
One of the best things Microsoft has ever created is the Xbox Game Pass subscription service. You can enjoy Game Pass via console, PC and Android devices (currently in beta), with multiple subscriptions …
