While you may not consider your Nintendo account to be the main target of an attack, thanks to reports of fraudulent activity, the company is now urging you to secure your Nintendo account by enabling two-factor authentication.
So in this article, we’ll show you how to protect your Nintendo account so that everything on your switch stays safe. Note that most of these steps must be performed on a computer or phone instead of the switch itself.
1. How to enable two-factor authentication in your Nintendo account
Double authentication increases the security of your account by requiring a password from your phone in addition to your password. This will dramatically increase the security of your account.

To enable two-factor authentication (2FA), go to To the Nintendo account login page and log in with your username and password. Depending on your linked accounts, you may also be able to sign in with a Nintendo Network ID or social media account.
Once you’ve signed in, you’ll see your account settings. Click to Login and security settings tab on the left, then search Two-step verification settings title at the bottom. click on Edit proceed.
On the resulting screen you will see Not chosen below Two-step confirmation. choose Two-step confirmation setting button to continue. The site will then ask you to confirm your email address; click on Send email if it is correct.
If not, select Viewing profile in the left sidebar and click Edit next to Email address change it.
You will then receive an email from Nintendo with a verification code. Enter the code and click send to move forward.
Install the 2FA application on your phone
At this point, you need to install the authentication application on your phone if you are not already using it. Nintendo recommends Google Authenticator, but Authy is one the best options for Google Authenticator

Authy works on multiple devices, so transferring is easier if you get a new phone or lose your own. In addition, you can install Authy on your computer for convenience, back up your accounts to the cloud, and protect your app with a PIN.

2. How to change your Nintendo account password

This will show you all the devices that have logged in to your Nintendo account in the last 30 days. Note that it counts each browser as a different device, so you may see which appear to be duplicates.

If you sign out of all devices because you think someone has hacked into your account, you should immediately change your password to prevent them from signing in.
4. How to unlink a PayPal account from your Nintendo account
For convenience, you can link your PayPal account to your Nintendo account. This allows you to fund purchases at the Nintendo Switch eShop using PayPal.
However, you should consider disabling this for security reasons. In April 2020, many people complained that the bad Actors had broken into their switch and used their PayPal account to spend hundreds of dollars on gaming items – usually V-Bucks at Fortnite.

Click to Shop menu link on the left side of your Nintendo account settings page to open a new tab with eShop settings. Here you can see if credit card or PayPal information is stored in your account.

Consider enabling alerts at your credit card company so you know right away if someone charges your account an unauthorized charge. And if you fall victim to fraud, you should contact Nintendo before contacting your credit card company. Some people have reported that Nintendo is not investigating cases that have already been flagged as fraudulent.
