. A decision that hasn’t lost too well with some. And now, the company has revealed its plans to stop supporting Internet Explorer 11 and the old version of Edge.

What happens to Internet Explorer and Edge?

Microsoft announced this change Microsoft Tech Community Blog, saying:

Today, we announce that Microsoft 365 applications and services will no longer support Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) by next year.

As of November 30, 2020, the Microsoft Teams web application will no longer support IE 11.
As of August 17, 2021, the remaining Microsoft 365 applications and services will no longer support IE 11.

The company further explains that after these dates, Microsoft 365 will not work properly with these browsers. The capacity of the Microsoft 365 is either reduced or stops working altogether.

In any case, it is a sign that Microsoft no longer wants to keep its older browsers alive.

Why Microsoft is opening Internet Explorer

If you’ve kept tabs in Microsoft Edge, this news shouldn’t come as a surprise to you. After all, Microsoft has had a hard time upgrading Microsoft Edge to be a strong competitor to Chrome and Firefox.

Microsoft began its push by releasing a Chromium version of Edge. Since then, the company has updated it with all the necessary tools for a modern browser. Then, Microsoft made the new version of Edge a core component of Windows 10

after the update.

Therefore, there is very little reason to continue using Internet Explorer 11 or the old Edge. As a result, Microsoft is reducing support for these browsers to focus on the Chromium version of Edge.

New browser for Windows 10

There’s a good chance that Internet Explorer 11 and the old version of Edge no longer have avid supporters. However, if you’re one of the rare breeds to use one or the other, we recommend jumping into the new Chromium Edge now.

Not only is it much better, but Microsoft has been supporting it for a long time.
