Top 10 Nature Documents to View on Netflix

For a variety of reasons, many of us want to be outdoors right now. However, not all of us have the time, money or ability to get rid of everything.

So how else can you explore nature? Well, of course you can look at nature documentaries. And these are the best nature documents currently available for viewing on Netflix.

1. Scottish Tigers

Don’t let the subject fool you! We thought this documentary would be boring based on the trailer, but once released, we can thoroughly recommend The Tigers of Scotland.

In less than an hour near the Tigers in Scotland, it is a difficult, critically endangered Scottish wild cat and conservation measures by local authorities to protect it.

The film’s stunning panoramas from the Scottish Highlands, interviews with wildlife experts and the narrator’s more detailed comments provide the film with a dry sense of humor and optimism. It’s an equal part of being practical, hopeful and informative.

2. The Pacific Ocean

Pacificum is a Spanish documentary about the coast of Peru. Weaving together hand-drawn animations with extensive aerial imagery, it tells the story of the Pacific Ocean. This document describes in detail the prehistoric sources of the sea to its current situation as well as the effects of human enlargement on the area.

The beautifully edited and almost ethereal documentary has been complemented by a team of experts explaining the impact of the ocean on the local landscape. Surprisingly – for a documentary about water – Pacificum also shows plenty of images of nearby deserts, although there is a point to this distinction.

As one of the experts explains, these deserts were once oceans; we need to examine them to see what may happen to us in the future.

3. Dances with birds

Are you looking for an absolutely hilarious, brilliantly edited nature documentary that can be made in the afternoon? Then we wholeheartedly recommend Dancing with the Birds, which is expressed by the ever-amusing Stephen Fry.

Particularly funny, but also informative, this bite-sized nature documentary about Netflix describes the details of the absolute dimensions that tropical birds go to secure a pair. In Fryn’s words, the whole show can be summed up as follows: “Finding love is the work of his life, but looking good is only half the story.”

4. Mission blue

Are you looking for a nature documentary with a political interest? If so, we recommend Mission Blue. It follows Dr. Sylvia Earle, a famous ocean researcher and legendary diver, as she tries to educate government decision-makers about the state of the world’s oceans.

Partly a nature documentary, part biography, Mission Blue begins with Sylvia’s origins as a young woman working in a male-dominated field. It then follows him until his appointment as head of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and after his activism.

Combining in-person interviews, historical diving materials, and deep-sea exploration, Mission Blue describes the overall deteriorating health of marine ecosystems. It is definitely one of the best nature documents on Netflix.

5. Terra

We almost didn’t recommend this documentary because we were worried it would become too “dark”. However, Terra has shot so beautifully that we will be rejected if we don’t mention it. It also has an important message for all of us.

When you start watching documentaries, you might think that Terra is all about deforestation, industrial agriculture, animal welfare, and just about anything else. However, this French film contains much more.

Beautifully depicted with ghostly, panoramic images and ghostly, powerful music, this philosophical documentary feels like a real fantasy that weaves science, mythology and religion together as it explains the history of the country’s inhabitants and the importance of protecting them.

6. Untamed Romania

Are you looking for a movie that is easy on the eyes, enjoyable to watch and that doesn’t tax your brain cells too much? See Untamed Romania, a nature documentary on the wild state of Romania.

As one of the latest – and largest – habitats left in Europe, Untamed Romania seeks to educate citizens about a local wildlife they may have forgotten. It also shows the magnificent landscapes that these creatures inhabit.

From deserted Carpathian mountains to old world forests, lazy Danube and curling expanses; this nature documentary looks like it came straight into the fairy tale.

7. Moving art

Are you looking for nature documentaries that don’t have stress, storytelling, or even something remotely related to politics? Then look at moving art.

Each episode of moving art, taken after the shot from beautiful images related to classical music, focuses on a specific type of subject and is considered its own mini-film.

From lakes to mountains, deserts, and entire lands (along with their unique ecosystems), Moving Art mixes real-time materials over time and connects the story of peace. It is currently one of the best nature documents around.

8. Chase the coral

Do you want a documentary that gives you an understanding of the ecological collapse, but also the overwhelming determination to do something? Check out Chasing Coral, a nature documentary by a former advertiser-identified climate change activist.

The film, with an expert group of camera geeks and coral enthusiasts, plans to record the “bleaching” of corals and educate audiences about rising ocean temperatures. Partly on Google Street View, part of an ad – all wrapped in one slip pack – this documentary is for anyone who loves coral reefs.
